The 1969 Mustang 'E' is an ultra-rare production fastback that most people have never heard of. It rolled off Ford's assembly line on November 21, 1968 at their Dearborn, Michigan facility - the sole birthplace of all Mustang 'E' models.

Equipped with a specially designed inline 6-cylinder, the Mustang 'E' featured a unique set of specifications - none of which applied to any of the other 6-cylinder Mustangs that Ford produced.

The 4.1 litre, 250 cubic-inch motor in this vehicle should not be confused with the "4.1L Special". The Mustang 'E' motor has an increased 9.5:1 compression ratio and is topped with a specially made Autolite carburetor. A 3-Speed C4 automatic transmission was used with a Mustang shifter, kickdown, and neutral switch. It also came with an oversized (1-inch larger than normal) torque converter and a low 2.33:1 rear axle ratio.

The cooling system of the 'E' was also purpose built and unique. It has a 196 - 203 degree thermostat, a 6-blade cooling fan which is 17 inches in diameter, and a radiator with 13 fins per-inch. Air conditioning was intentionally not included on any of the Mustang 'E' cars. (Details on these special design characteristics can be seen on the spec sheets in the images below. Attributes are highlighted in red.)

Ford's purpose for the vehicle's production was to be an economy model (hence the 'E' name) intended for use in the Mobilgas Economy Run. This was a popular historic event held up until 1969 where automakers competed to see which vehicles could achieve the best gas mileage on a real-life, long distance drive starting in California and heading east.

Producing just 96 Mustang 'E' models allowed it to be counted as an official production-level automobile. This fulfilled the requirements for the MobilGas Economy Run since no special prototypes or one-of-a-kind vehicles were permitted.

In other words, Ford began official production to not only compete in the Economy Run, but to begin testing, creating and reaching a new market of fuel-conscious consumers by using the already successful Mustang Platform.

Now, in 2023 there is only a single remaining specimen. It has undergone a complete restoration to MCA (Mustang Club of America) specifications and is in concours condition. In its original color of luxurious Silver Jade with beautiful black interior, this is without a doubt one of the rarest Fastbacks on the planet.

It was rebuilt over a period of several years, thanks to the direct help of Ford Motor Company who provided historical records, specs, and other important documentation. This enabled the restoration to meet MCA standards and match all specifications just as it came from the assembly line at Dearborn in 1968.

This is not a car that any other collector has. It is also not a car that anyone else can duplicate. It is fully documented, includes the original factory-to-dealer invoice, build sheet, and a Marti Report. Various other literature is also included such as an AMA specification booklet with info pertaining directly to the Mustang E, and magazine clippings showing the story and history of the Mobilgas Economy Run.

Upon purchase of this beautiful and incredibly rare fastback, you will be the only person in the world to hold the clean and clear title of a correct 1969 Mustang 'E' - as well as the story behind it. The buyer will also receive ownership and all rights to the Mustang-E-Registry website, where this car is displayed and the history of the rare Mustang 'E' production vehicle is included in complete detail.

This is an investment that will only appreciate in value. It is the ultimate conversation piece and a genuine, authentic gem of Ford Mustang history.
